This cinnamon rolls recipe is very easy , detailed and delicious that once you try it out you cant stop making these , cinnamon rolls are luxury personified as far as am concerned , the fluffy and soft bread filled with aromatic cinnamon, butter and brown sugar, baked to perfection is the perfect meal for breakfast or brunch.
My very first taste of cinnamon rolls was at a brunch meeting , they served us these warm rolls with sugar glazing on top if it and i couldn’t get my hands off them, right after the meeting i had to search for recipes online , but i was turned off as all the recipes i saw required lots of process and i just wasn’t willing to do at that work for breakfast, but i couldn’t get over the yumminess and i knew i just had to make them!
Cinnamon rolls are basically super soft bread, filled with cinnamon, brown sugar and butter baked until golden brown, while baking these goodies your home will just be smelling amazingly yummy from the vanilla and cinnamon and you will just be eager to take a bite out of it.
For this recipe i will work you through the step by step process, trust me it might seem like a lot but its all worth it in the end, and the good thing is that you can make these ahead and just keep in the fridge then bake in the morning for a stress free breakfast that is ready in no time.
This recipe will give you about 12 rolls which should serve about 4 people.
4 Cups flour
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 cup milk
5 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
2 tablespoon yeast
4 table spoon softened butter
1 tea spoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons cinnamon
MAKE THE DOUGH
In a large bowl add 1 cup warm milk ( warm to touch not hot) and the 1 tablespoon sugar , then add in the yeast and cover to proof till its foamy, this should take about 5 minutes.
Once the yeast mixture is proofed, add in the egg , melted butter vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 3 cups of flour together till you get a soft but sticky dough then gently add in the remaining one cup of lour bits by bits till you have a nice dough formed , you want your dough to be soft enough to knead .
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead till its smooth, now transfer into a lightly oiled bowl and cover to rise and double its size , this should take about one hour.
MAKE THE SPREAD
While your dough is rising, in a small bowl combine your softened butter, cinnamon and light brown sugar together till you have a smooth marriage of all the ingredients then set aside.
MAKE THE CINNAMON ROLL
Uncover your dough after about one hour of rising and punch down the air, transfer onto a floured surface and roll out using a rolling pin, like the picture above, now gently spread evenly the cinnamon, butter and brown sugar mix, make sure you dont spread to the edges to avoid spillage while they are baking.
Once you have generously spread the cinnamon mix, gently roll out the dough tightly, to form a log, now to the nice part, with a very sharp knife, cut across to give you individual rolls , place these cut out rolls into a baking dish lined with butter and cover to rise again for another 30 minutes,\.
While your rolls are rising for the very last time, turn on your oven to about 200 degrees, you want your oven to be in the right temperature once your rolls are ready to go in, this limits baking time and ensures that your rolls bake perfectly.
Once your rolls have doubled in size which should be about 30 minutes, transfer your baking dish into your oven and bake for 25 minutes or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown.
The aroma from your kitchen at this point is just divine!
Take out your rolls and serve warm, although some people like to glaze their rolls, i prefer not to cos of all the sugar already present in the cinnamon rolls. I enjoyed mine with a hot cup of coffee and it was just amazing, my kids couldn’t have enough!
