Women tortured and killed because they were thought to be witches

Can you imagine in the era that we live in today, there are still people who believe in witches and even worse than that is that they still practise the killing of women suspected to practise witchcraft by burning them alive!

In a recent case in Papua New Guinea, a young woman was stripped, tied up, gagged and tied to a log and burned alive. You can read the full news report about this here. Imagine the cruelty that still happens today.

Apparently this is common in that part of the world, where women continue to be tortured and killed if they are thought to be witches. Many cases of this have been reported. It’s strange that nothing much has been done to condone the cruel act.

It’s all too easy to accuse a woman of practising witchcraft and act as a community to murder her. There is law in the country, but it doesn’t seem effective in catching up with the culprits who take lives of others in their own hands. Maybe the people who are behind this think that since they are doing this as a group, there is no way the police can single out one specific murderer, so they get away with their crimes.

I do hope no other women fall victim to such cruelty.
