“I’m a millionaire. So who wants to marry my money me?”

I read with amusement in today’s papers about a South Korean woman who is a millionaire (worth some US$18 million or so) who’s looking for a husband. She used the service of a matchmaking agency in her plight to look for a man to marry her. According to the agency, she is too busy with her business to find herself a husband.

So far, some 400 South Korean men have applied to marry her. And according to the agency who filters out the applications, these men range from the average man to the professionals like lawyers and doctors. Only 8 will be shortlisted from the hundreds of hopeful applicants and the bride-to-be will meet these men over the next few months to determine who she will marry.

I sometimes wonder if she will find what she is truly seeking. I’m sure what she wants is a man who loves her as her lifetime companion. But will any of the man really love her for her after that few short months of “courtship”? I’m sure they were attracted by the money in the first place to put in an application to marry the millionaire. Will love prevail in the end?

For her sake, I hope it does. What do you think? Are you optimistic that she will find love?

I read a recent article that talked about the reasons for divorce amongst couples and found it interesting that couples of different races have different tolerance levels for common reasons causing divorces.

Have a look at the result that was compiled and see if you spot any surprises.

• Indian couples cite in-law inteference as the main reason causing marriage break-ups.
• Infidelity also rank high in Malay and Indian couples as a reason for divorce. It was surprising to read that the Chinese do not find this to be a main reason for divorce! And I’ve always thought otherwise.
• For the Chinese, health and gambling addictions are more prominent reasons for divorces.
• Indians would also take to divorce where there is abuse, but not so much with the Malays and Chinese.
• All three races agree that non-responsibility of a spouse is a cause for divorce.

What got me wide-eyed in today’s papers is again the Dear Thelma section. I previously found a shocking story from there about a peeping tom’s confession. Today, it is the confession of a man who thinks that he’s a woman trapped in a man’s body. The shocking thing isn’t about him feeling more inclined as a woman, but his wife’s acceptance and support of his situation.

You see, he confessed what he feels about his sexuality to his wife and another woman friend and both are said to be very supportive of him, and even encouraged that he cross dresses in public to see how comfortable he feels being a woman. Apparently, he feels comfortable enough to think about doing a sex change operation and becoming a woman.

It makes me wonder how the wife of this man is such a strong woman to be alright with it all, and to be so supportive. What will happen to the marriage if he does end up getting a sex change? Will he still be with the woman he married or will he now want to be a she and be with a man?

Perhaps his wife loves him so much that she’s willing to let him go, for him to be happy. What a woman she is! Is this what we call unconditional love? Seems to me like it is.

Whilst it may seem a harsh thing to say, I think Rihanna should be ashamed that she has decided to get back together with Chris Brown. After what he has done to her, beating her up repeated, she still found it in her to forgive his action because she still loves him very much. No doubt this is a case of love being blind, who could blame a girl in love.

But it is definitely not worth to be with a man who claims to love you but then repeatedly beat you up so bad. Will he ever change his ways? I doubt so. If he did feel sorry and remorseful over his bad behaviour in bashing up the woman he loves, there wouldn’t have been a second or third time.

If a woman keeps forgiving the man she deeply loves for beating her up, indirectly she is giving him the message that it is alright to hit her because she loves him and is willing to forgive him. She may even find her own excuse for his behaviour, believing that she did deserve the beating too.

Any woman, for whatever she has done, does not deserve to be beaten up. For that matter, no one deserves to be beaten up for any action. Hitting out at anyone is a crime, don’t you think?

I urge all women to rethink whether it’s worth while to forgive and continue to be with the man who hits her. As much as you love him, you do not deserve to be treated that way by him. Don’t make up excuses for his bad behaviour, he doesn’t deserve it unless he belongs in a mental institution. Think about it, if a man really loves you, he wouldn’t and couldn’t stand to see you get hurt, much less to be the one to inflict the pain on you. How could someone who love you turn violent against you? Think about it.

A year after the leak of Gillian Chung’s scandalous sex photos with Edison Chen, the Hong Kong star appeared in a recent interview to reveal what her life has been like in the last one year. Filled with shame, Gillian said for a long time, she couldn’t bring herself to face others, to have them look at her face, not to mention to look them directly in their eyes.

But a year after that photo leak, Gillian Chung, still filled with remorse and sadness, is working hard to regain her dignity as a person. She said in the interview that she feels so much shame being totally robbed off her personal privacy, saying that she’s bared everything for everyone to see.

It isn’t easy for someone so highly successful and in the limelight to now stoop so low, starting all over again in a career where she had it all. Just a simple act of saying yes to the camera had destroyed her life. Again, I would once again like to repeat that no smart women should ever say yes to being recorded in such private acts.

Is the public forgiving enough to give her the moral support and encouragement to get back on her feet and face the world with the dignity she once had? I feel that we should move on and let her do the same. Give her the space and dignity that she needs and let her rebuild her life.

I do wonder if she will really make a successful comeback in the Hong Kong showbiz or anywhere else for that matter. But if she does, I’m sure she will be a much stronger person not to mention a whole lot wiser as a woman too. Here’s wishing Gillian all the best and stay strong, girl!
