A man is no match to a woman when it comes to talking

One morning while I was on the train to work, a couple in their 50s to 60s sat next to me. I was reading my newspapers as usual, but the loud conversation between the couple made it hard for me to concentrate. Although I couldn’t hear the exact topics that were going on in their conversation, I surely heard the voices.

After a while, I realised that the “noise” never really ended and it kept distracting me from my reading. So I decided to fold up the newspapers and put it away. I had no intention of eavesdropping whatsoever, but they were so loud that it was inevitable to listen in on the conversations.

Actually, I wouldn’t really call it a conversation because it was pretty much a one way communication with the lady doing the talking for 95% of the time. The silent acknowledgements of a nod of the head doesn’t quite count as part of the conversation, does it?

I was quite amused at the situation. The lady can chat about anything and everything, and the topics didn’t necessarily relate to each other as she goes on from one topic to the next without really having to stop!

So as I sat there ready to be amused, I learned quite a lot of things. How a relative in Singapore must work hard to keep his job so that his salary of $9,000 can be sustained through the bad times, especially since he needs to be able to support the cost of his brand new Mercedes! I also learned that the lady is going soon to China and that she had only made a currency change of RMB1,000 and that she wasn’t going to buy more clothes but just some food stuff and whatever else that she considers her “needs”. This topic went around about 3 times so I pretty much memorised how she will be spending her money! Then I also knew that she’s rather environmentally friendly, purchasing a stainless steel food container to pack her food instead of using the plastic containers provided by the shops. I also knew how much she bought the food container for and what she thought of it!

Now that’s a lot of things to learn of a stranger and the people in her life in just 20 minutes, don’t you think?! Can a man ever go on and on to talk about everything and anything the way a woman can? I doubt so. If you are a man reading this, and you can do what this woman did, tell us! We’d be dead impressed! I know I would.
