Every woman’s nightmare
When a woman marries a man, one of her deepest fear is to have her life turned upside down by parents-in-law from hell. Truth be told, it’s often the mother-in-law who’s the big culprit, not so much the father-in-law. It normally bodes well with any woman not to stay under the same roof with the in-laws, so guys, take this as a cue or a promise of a less argumentative marriage!
However, once the woman becomes a mother, her second nightmare will start when she in turn becomes the mother-in-law! As it is, I have heard conversations by women whose sons are barely 3 years old, sharing stories of how they are not looking forward to having a daughters-in-law from hell driving them crazy.
It’s strange but true that you hate the person you eventually become. And it seems there’s just no way to avoid having this in-bred distance with the in-laws. Before you even marry a person, it’s almost as if it is ingrained in you that you shall never get along with his parents and family. And as a mother, you also expect that whoever he marries will just never like you for you.
So are women going to try to be less of an in-law from hell? I doubt so…it’s just the law of nature!

Most of those bad MIL are from those uneducated or those that come from very strict, traditional and conservative cultures.
The best option is not to stay together in the same house. There will always be cultural differences or the generation gap which is unavoidable.

Gallivanter, indeed it is!
Laura, I tend to agree with you but let’s hope in our golden years, the younger generation would not categorise us as the traditional ones!
