“I’m a millionaire. So who wants to marry my money me?”

I read with amusement in today’s papers about a South Korean woman who is a millionaire (worth some US$18 million or so) who’s looking for a husband. She used the service of a matchmaking agency in her plight to look for a man to marry her. According to the agency, she is too busy with her business to find herself a husband.

So far, some 400 South Korean men have applied to marry her. And according to the agency who filters out the applications, these men range from the average man to the professionals like lawyers and doctors. Only 8 will be shortlisted from the hundreds of hopeful applicants and the bride-to-be will meet these men over the next few months to determine who she will marry.

I sometimes wonder if she will find what she is truly seeking. I’m sure what she wants is a man who loves her as her lifetime companion. But will any of the man really love her for her after that few short months of “courtship”? I’m sure they were attracted by the money in the first place to put in an application to marry the millionaire. Will love prevail in the end?

For her sake, I hope it does. What do you think? Are you optimistic that she will find love?

It is actually quite a good practise to do a health screen together to know how you each stand in your medical condition. But when it comes to doing a medical test to check for possible sexual disease like HIV, I can imagine that it can get quite nerve-wrecking.

In some faith, such medical examinations are compulsory so there is no discussion about it, whether to do it or not. I guess it works well that way for couples who actually want to have this done. But for those who are not required to do this but want their partner to undergo a test, how do you even begin to talk about it?

Is such a medical examination important to you before you marry the love of your life?

As their beautiful love story unfolded, I listened in awe and was pretty much struck with awe throughout the entire wedding reception. I kept thinking how a whirlwind romance must feel like, to be proposed to in just a couple of months into dating, where you barely know the person you’re dating other than what you may see and know on the surface.

It takes a lot to make a marriage work. It takes understanding, patience, giving and taking and not to mention love to take all the challenges of a marriage in stride. But if you do not know the person deep enough, does this pose a threat to the workability of a marriage? That was the burning question in my mind.

It sure sounds like a fairy tale when all goes on and ends well. But when problems arise in the marriage, I’m quite sure doubts of whether they had gotten married too quickly will come to mind. I’m not the type of girl who can say yes to a marriage proposal if I don’t date the guy long enough to know more of all sides of him. The good and the bad. I need to know what I’m getting into, with eyes wide open. I don’t like surprises and I don’t think I can take them well if they are bad surprises. So call me unromantic and unspontaneous, but a whirlwind romance ending in marriage is really not my thing.

How about the other ladies out there? Can you get to know someone in 3 months and know that he is the one?

Most women are great bargainers when it comes to shopping. Many will also find themselves haggling with wedding vendors for the many services required for the big day. I’ve heard of some real horror stories of how some women go to the extent of being very unreasonable when bargaining for a better deal. How would you like to be drilled down to the very detail of calculating mileage costs (calculating actual distance, toll charges from entry to exit points and even cost per mile!)  in your quotation for your service as a vendor? And that’s just one aspect of the costs involved. Imagine having to deal with a couple more of these small costs, all broken down into detail, scrutinised closely by the couple!

Everyone would like to be paying value for money for their products and services. But when it comes to a wedding, you have to give and take a little bit. After all, the wedding industry is huge and if the vendor is not happy with you, they can choose not to accept the job. Even if they take the job for some reason, at the price that you managed to squeeze out of them, you can’t be sure they will go about happily doing their job. It’s not to say that the vendors aren’t professional enough to do a lousy job on your wedding day, but I believe in having good energy about you on your wedding day. I’m sure you only want to be talked about as the beautiful and gracious bride of the night, and not how a pain in the neck you are.

If the wedding budget doesn’t allow, and you want everything in a wedding, then you should be looking at cheaper alternatives as options. If you want only the best of things, then you obviously need to cut back on a few things. Bottom line is, it’s really not cool to get your vendors to justify each line of charges and slash them down to the bones.

What do you like best about a wedding? In the movie “27 Dresses”, Jane and Kevin both enjoy looking at the face of the groom as the bride makes her big grand entrance down the aisle. For me, I’m the old school type and like to see the bride. The groom is almost totally invisible to me (obviously that’s not the case at my very own wedding!).

Every bride is lovely and I like to watch her walking down the aisle. I can’t explain it, but I just find that part the best part of a wedding. She’s in a world of her own and I can only imagine what goes on in her head as she moves towards her love of her life, ready to take the vow to be together forever irregardless of what the future holds for them. It’s a beautiful moment.
